Vacancy for Administrative Coordinator (Part-time)

The University of A Coruña will soon offer a position for a part-time administrative coordinator to work in the management of the 5-year European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant) project FASTPARSE (Fast Natural Language Parsing for Large-Scale NLP), led by Prof. Carlos Gómez-Rodríguez. The main goal of this frontier research project is to develop new algorithms and techniques to improve the speed of natural language parsers, making them suitable for web-scale processing.

The University of A Coruña is a young, vibrant public university located in A Coruña, a charming city in the Atlantic coast of Galicia (Spain) offering high quality of life at an affordable cost of living for European standards. The selected candidate will join a new laboratory dedicated to the project, with a research team planned to be composed of 2 postdoctoral researchers and 2 PhD students together with the project leader.

Job content:

The main role of the administrative coordinator is to perform secretarial duties needed for the daily economic and administrative management of the project. This includes acting as an interface between the Principal Investigator and the local accounting office as well as the relevant ERC project and finance officers, managing budgets and bookkeeping, organizing academic travel arrangements and equipment purchases, preparing reports, etc. The selected candidate will also manage the promotion and dissemination of the project (e.g. maintaining the project website) and perform other related tasks to help the project within their specialization, such as data entry.

Salary and benefits:
  • Gross salary level in the range of €14000-15000 per year.
  • The expected start date is March 1, 2017.
  • The initial period of the contract will be 1+1 years, but extensible to a total of up to 5 years.

Minimum qualifications (exclusion criteria):
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (as required by the university regulations to hire administrative technicians).
  • Excellent level of spoken and written Spanish and English.

Preferred qualifications (evaluation criteria):
  • Experience in economic and administrative project management, especially of R&D projects.
  • Experience in working within an academic research environment.
  • Experience in economic and administrative management of EU-funded R&D projects.
  • Training received on project management.
  • Training received on European R&D programs.
  • Good team work skills.
  • Computer skills.
The evaluation will be based on the CV and cover letter submitted by the applicants. Interviews (in person or remotely) will be conducted if it is deemed necessary to select a candidate.
